A French Fairytale
In the French fairytale “Peau d'Âne “ known by the English title “Once upon a Time”, the Princess asks for a dress “the colour of the moon” and gets one. Once upon a time, three sisters, Evelyne, Chantal and Monique, dreamed of revolutionising the austere world of bridal fashion in the 70’s. In 1972, Cymbeline was founded, and it wasn’t very long before the innovative and creative sisters had created “moon-coloured” wedding gowns. In 2010, some 38 years on, Cymbeline is one of the leading bridal designers in Europe with a worldwide presence. Based in a restored 17th century mill in Nemours, 70 kilometres South of Paris, there are now over 40 ‘Cymbeline boutiques’ worldwide, with the latest opening in Brazil. In the UK alone, there are 25 retailers who carry a selection of the Cymbeline 2010 collection, including Perfect Bridal in Aberdeen.
Part of the bridal “revolution” started by the twins, Chantal and Evelyne, in the 70’s was to experiment with colours. The sisters pushed the boundaries by introducing ivory! These days brides expect a choice of colours and Cymbeline offer the bride a broad selection, moon-coloured and otherwise, including white, light ivory, ivory, dark ivory and pastel shades.
