AT THE FOREFRONT

The Grampian Wedding Directory may be the longest-standing wedding publication in Grampian but it also takes pride in remaining contemporary and innovative. So, the photo shoot for this issue was conducted at Union Square, Jurys Inn and the Carmelite Hotel. Union Square is Aberdeen’s newest retail and leisure facility and was the only shopping centre to launch in Scotland in 2009, opening on 29th October. The 203-bedroom, eight-storey Jurys Inn hotel is integrated with Union Square, and brings a new style of hotel to Aberdeen. Carmelite, in Stirling Street, is one of Aberdeen’s hidden gems. Opened in 2006, it recently had a £2.5m refurbishment and has won an award for its bedroom design.

GWD chose award-winning photographer Simon Clubb to take the photos. Simon was delighted with the contemporary locations and backdrops, although they presented him with quite a challenge. Simon comments: “The vast width of the mall in Union Square gave us flexibility to work, and the different retail outlets gave the shoot variation. The US staff were very helpful in orchestrating the shoot, especially with the number of people in the mall! Special thanks to ROX, AZENDI and Jurys Inn which resulted in some exciting shots.”

Simon also made good use of the billboards within the shopping centre which lent themselves to becoming contemporary backdrops.

Simon was particularly taken by the Carmelite’s wonderful dining room and throne which he used to create a Vanity Fair-style shot of the three brides. Carmelite’s "Natural Suite" is a beautiful, light room which allowed Simon to create simple yet elegant shots of the three models. The three models, Sam, Keri and Glen were all from Premiere Productions Scotland. The models’ hair was styled by Lindsay Steel and their make-up was by Aleca.

The bridal gowns came from Belmont Bridal, Louise Lontana Bridal and Isabelle Randall. Mother-of-the-bride outfits came from B's Knees and the Grooms’ outfits were supplied by McCalls and Perfect Bridal Rooms.
