Catherine Stott spoke to Resource Co-Ordinator Sarah Strachan who married Offshore Services Supervisor Eddy Williamson on 21st September 2013 and discovered that getting married just 16 months after your sister can have its advantages.

Sarah Strachan decided where she wanted to get married when she was 15 years old, and, to be honest, was a bit annoyed that, in the intervening years between her dream becoming a reality, that quite so many other brides had realised that Meldrum House Hotel was the perfect place for a wedding! In April 2011, the day after Eddy romantically proposed to Sarah while they were taking a walk along the coast by Slains Castle, Sarah booked Meldrum House and was delighted to get the date of Saturday 21st September 2013, having also always wanted to get married in September.

With this bride-to-be, you might have then expected the rest of the wedding to be booked and organised by the end of 2011, however Sarah’s sister Claire was already engaged at this time and in the throes of organising her wedding in May 2012 at Crathes Castle. So, having secured her dream venue, booked the cathedral and band, Sarah relaxed about her own wedding and took time to enjoy supporting, and being a bridesmaid, to her sister. That’s not to say that she didn’t also take good note of which suppliers Claire used and, as in the case of Logan Sangster from Deeside Photographics, ensure that she secured them for her wedding!

Even with some of the same people being there and with no specific theme, Sarah knew her wedding would be very different from her sister’s by the very nature of its timing and location. Getting married in St Machars Cathedral gave Claire and Sarah’s grandfather, Leon Smith known as  Papa, the perfect excuse to give his vintage Jaguar an extra polish and he was delighted to drive Sarah to the cathedral and then Eddy and Sarah to Meldrum House.

While keeping to a stylish colour scheme of black, white and pink (which was in Eddy’s kilt as well as the bouquets), the couple, with the aid of the fabulous staff of Meldrum House, added a few personal touches to the reception which made all the difference. The tables were all named after champagnes, with Dom Pérignon for the top table, and a magnum of the nominated champagne was placed on each table for the guests to enjoy. This simple, but generous, gesture made for a memorable evening for everyone, and Sarah and Eddy kept their bottle as a souvenir of a top class wedding.
