Neither shaken nor stirred
Catherine Stott interviewed area retail manager Mhairi Bain who married chef Eric Boyd on Friday 16th November 2007 at Fyvie Castle followed by a reception at Thainstone House Hotel.
For Mhairi Bain it was easy to choose a theme for her wedding as fiancé Eric Boyd is a big fan of James Bond. “Diamonds are forever” was the obvious choice, with the natural link between diamonds and love, combined with unspoken sophistication and glamour. Mhairi had always wanted a winter wedding in a stunning setting so Fyvie Castle in November fitted the bill perfectly. Mhairi was hoping for one of those sunny November days when everything seems to glow with golden colours and she wasn’t disappointed. Mhairi also loved the sweeping stone staircase at Fyvie and photographer Philip Stewart made the most of it as a backdrop for photos of Mhairi with her father, John, and her new husband.
Mhairi made the most of her chosen theme. Setting the tone from the outset, Opus Crafts (operated by Aberdeen Social Enterprises) did a great job creating striking black invitations with “Diamonds are forever” reversed-out in white. The menu cards at the reception went one step further and were adorned with a few “diamonds”. More “diamonds” were scattered on the black tablecloths and were also to be found amongst the ivory rose floral decorations. The black, white and ivory theme was echoed by the white napkins tied with black ribbons and the favours. The lady guests found at their place setting a black box tied with an ivory ribbon intriguingly labelled “With this ring”. Inside each box were two napkin rings, one fashioned like an engagement ring, the other like a wedding ring. For the men, there was a miniature bottle of black Sambuca.
