Having a Ball
Apart from joining the bride and groom, a wedding can also unite two sets of family and friends. During your wedding day, your guests will meet, mingle and perhaps even strike up romances of their own! To set the scene for everyone to enjoy your wedding day, consider carefully the many possible ways of entertaining your guests.
Most couples having an evening reception will plan some sort of dancing. Whether your music is live or recorded, Scottish or more casual is up to you, and you will find several good bands and DJs to choose from. To help you decide, their agent may well be able to show you a DVD of them in action, or you can watch some clips online or perhaps see them at a wedding show. If you’d like to see a band you’re interested in performing for real, you may be able to visit a venue you know they’re playing at and listen for a few minutes. If you choose a Scottish ceilidh band you may like to consider having a ‘caller’ to instruct the less confident dancers. And if you want to brush up your own steps or learn something new to impress everyone, book a few dancing lessons, well in advance of the big day! Most musicians will want your input for the order of play, and certainly a suggestion for the all-important first dance. You should also plan some ‘piped’ music to play while the band takes a break.
Music will also be required at other points during the day. The bride normally enters the wedding venue to a chosen piece, played on church organ or perhaps by a string quartet. Church weddings include hymns and music while you sign the register, which the organist can help you choose. Back at the reception venue ....
