MARTIN SNAPS UP ANOTHER WIN

 

 Martin Leckie won the ‘UK Children’s Portrait Photographer of the Year 2007’ and was also runner-up in the acclaimed ‘UK Photographer of the Year Award 2007’ at the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) and BPPA (British Professional Photographers Associates) Awards, which showcase the very best in photography both in the UK and internationally. Martin says: “I am delighted to win this award, especially with such a high level of competition.” There were over 18,000 entries for the awards in 22 different categories.

Avorio Double Top

 

Avorio won the Best Bridal Retailer in Scotland at the 2007 VOWS awards ceremony. The VOWS awards recognise companies of the highest calibre in their field, with companies being nominated and voted for by their customers. In their second year of being nominated, Leigh-Anne Murray of Avorio describes herself as “tickled pink” by winning the award. Avorio also won the prize for best stand at the Your Wedding Exhibition at the AECC in January.

 

 

Showtime for showreel

Mark Stuart Wedding Films received the IOV (Institute of Videography) Highly Commended award in the Open category for his 2007 Wedding Showreel DVD. Their entry was one of only five short-listed titles within this category which is a significant achievement in itself.  Judges were not only looking for exceptional video production standards, but also originality and creative flair. Mark is tremendously proud of the company’s achievement in the IOV Awards, making this the fifth year in succession that they have collected an award.

Big Moment in New York

 

Kathleen Mitchell, sister of Carol Grant and Gillian Bain who run Moments Bridal, will always have fond memories of the Rockefeller Center in New York. While there on holiday in December, boyfriend Michael Buchan, proposed to Kathleen. The wedding is planned for November 2008 and will be a family affair with Carol, Gillian and Carol’s two daughters as bridesmaids, and Carol’s son as ring bearer.

Scott Hogg of Scott Hogg Photography recently received four merit awards for his wedding photography; one in the complete wedding section comprising ten images, and three for three different images in the most promising classic wedding section. Malcolm Duckworth of Portra Photographic Services has passed the Master Photographers Association Licentiate Qualification (LMPA) in the category of Wedding and Portraiture Photography.

 

Menzies in Aberdeen

 

Menzies Hotels bought eight Thistle hotels in September 2007, including the Skean Dhu Hotel in Dyce. To bring the hotel in line with the style and luxury associated with Menzies Hotels, a comprehensive refurbishment has started which is due for completion in July 2008. Watch this space for more details in the next issue of GWD.

Competition Winners

The winner of the caption competition and dinner, bed and breakfast at Drumossie Hotel is Nicole King from Aberdeen. The winning caption was 'if Jenny had known thet Paul's light saber was that big she would have married him years ago!'.

The winner of the £1000 holiday vouchers is Louise McGullogh, getting married to Neil Paterson on 13 September 2008.

The winner of the Berry Scumptious competition worth £500 has been won by Lindsay Walker who is getting married to Daniel Ritchie.
